PUTRAJAYA, 23 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) and the Selangor government have strengthened strategic cooperation on environmental management and sustainability, with discussions covering electric vehicle battery waste, end-of-life solar panels and plastic reduction.
Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Dato’ Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup received a courtesy call from Selangor Public Health and Environment Executive Councillor Jamaliah binti Jamaluddin at the ministry in Putrajaya on 22 September.
The meeting served as a platform to strengthen cooperation between the Federal Government and the Selangor government, particularly in coordinating environmental policies, monitoring and enforcement.
Among the key issues discussed were the management of end-of-life electric vehicle (EV) batteries, strengthening enforcement powers for local authorities, the management and disposal of end-of-life solar panels, the development of guidelines on odour pollution and efforts to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags.
The two sides also discussed developments surrounding the implementation of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy.

NRES has previously stated that waste solar panels and EV batteries are classified as scheduled waste under code SW 103 of the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005, placing their management under existing environmental regulations.
Also present at the meeting were NRES Deputy Secretary-General (Environmental Sustainability) Datuk Nor Yahati binti Awang, senior ministry officials and members of the Selangor government delegation.
