IPOH: The Perak government is expecting five million domestic tourists to visit the state by December, says Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohd Radzi.

The state tourism committee chairman said checks with 67 hotels working with the state showed some 90,000 room bookings until the end of the year so far.

She said last year, Perak received 10.1mil domestic arrivals, which was the highest in the country for domestic arrivals.

When asked if the target could be achieved with the Covid-19 pandemic, Nolee said with Perak, under the green zone category, would hopefully help.

“Everyone, including the industry players and the tourists themselves, must ensure that the standard operating procedure is adhered and enforced accordingly.

“Besides that, we are focusing on tourism packages according to six tourism clusters underlined in the state that will allow repeat tourist arrivals, ” she told reporters after closing a three-day programme organised by the Tourism, Arts and Culture ministry at a hotel here for industry players in the state.

Themed “Semarak Pelancongan Perak”, over 70 participants from the various tourism-related fields attended the event to talk about the available incentives, training and ways to enhance promotions and marketing.

On the six tourism clusters, Nolee said since Perak was huge, it was impossible for tourists to visit the whole state in two or three days.

Thus, she said, tourism packages were designed according to six separate tourism clusters that were divided geographically.

“This way, we are hoping for repeat tourist arrivals.

“For example, for the first trip, tourists can visit the Royal Belum and the surrounding areas, while for their next visit, they can op for the other packages in any of the five other remaining clusters, ” she added. -The Star
