JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) seized 315kg of local agricultural products destined for Singapore at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) on Monday night (Sept 14).

Its Johor director Nur Afifah A. Rahman said the department carried out an inspection operation at the export lorry lane at around 8pm.
“We seized about RM2,000’s worth of agricultural products during the inspections, including slipper lobsters, pandan leaves, jenahak fish and many other items throughout the operation.” she said on Tuesday.
Most of the seized items were placed together with other trade items that complied with rulings to confuse Maqis officers carrying out enforcement operations, she said.

She added that the export of any agricultural products without an authentic export permit from Maqis was an offence under Section 11(2) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011, and anyone found guilty could be sentenced under Section 11(3) of the same Act.
This entailed a fine of not more than RM100,000, a jail term of not more than six years or both upon conviction.
