KUCHING 7 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – A striking 90-metre fire dragon costume with hornbill design elements is set to be the centrepiece of this year’s annual birthday procession for the Seng Ong deity, organisers said ahead of Thursday’s celebrations.
The locally made fire dragon, believed to be the longest of its kind in Malaysia, was unveiled during an eye-dotting ceremony at the Hong San Si temple on Monday night, with Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian praising the craftsmanship and cultural significance of the piece.
Dr Sim described the hornbill-themed dragon as a unique symbol of Sarawak’s identity, reflecting both artistic talent and the multicultural spirit of the state, as the procession brings together participants from diverse communities.
