DALAT, SARAWAK, 8 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi today officiated the handover of two completed education infrastructure projects under the Ministry of Education (MOE) at SMK Semop and SMK Dalat in Sarawak.
According to information shared by the Ministry of Works (KKR) Malaysia via its official Facebook page, the simultaneous handover of the new 12-classroom building at SMK Semop and the replacement 18-classroom building at SMK Dalat reflects the MADANI Government’s continued commitment to strengthening educational facilities and providing students and school communities with a more comfortable, modern and conducive learning environment.
Both projects were implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia through the Special Project Team 2 (PPK2) with a combined value of RM37.76 million as part of ongoing efforts to enhance education infrastructure and improve learning conditions, particularly in Sarawak.
The RM10.56 million project at SMK Semop in Daro involved the construction of a new academic block comprising 12 classrooms and supporting facilities. Undertaken by KSB Global Sdn. Bhd., the project was completed on 16 January 2026, 164 days ahead of its original schedule and without any Extension of Time (EOT).
Meanwhile, the RM27.20 million redevelopment project at SMK Dalat was completed by Welfield Services Sdn. Bhd. on 30 December 2025, 10 days ahead of schedule. The project included the construction of a replacement academic block housing 18 classrooms, workshops, laboratories and school administrative facilities.
Additional amenities provided under the project include a canteen, surau, modern sewerage system and a high-capacity water tank tower aimed at improving the comfort and welfare of students, teachers and school staff.
Both projects were delivered using Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology and the Industrialised Building System (IBS), enabling a more efficient and structured construction process while supporting safer and more sustainable learning environments.
KKR said the successful implementation of the design-and-build projects demonstrates the Government’s commitment to strengthening educational development through the provision of quality and resilient infrastructure for the benefit of local communities.
The ministry also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education for entrusting JKR Malaysia with the implementation of the projects, which have now been successfully completed and handed over.
Following the handover, JKR Malaysia will continue monitoring the performance of the buildings and work closely with the contractors to ensure all responsibilities during the Defects Liability Period (DLP) are fulfilled in accordance with contractual requirements and prevailing regulations. – The Capital Post.
