PETALING JAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has indicated that the party is open to accepting former members back into its fold, including Hamzah Zainudin, who is reportedly at risk of being expelled from Bersatu.
According to Utusan Malaysia, Zahid said the Rumah Bangsa initiative serves as an open platform for individuals or groups who wish to rejoin or become part of Umno.
“Umno is a home for party members and anyone who fights for the interests of the Malay community,” he was quoted as saying when asked about Hamzah’s standing in Bersatu.
The Rumah Bangsa initiative features a dedicated panel tasked with assessing and approving applications from former members seeking to return to the party.

Following Barisan Nasional’s defeat in the 2018 general election, Umno experienced a wave of defections to Bersatu. Among the lawmakers who left were Hamzah, Sabah Bersatu chief Ronald Kiandee and Wanita Bersatu chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
Hamzah, who currently serves as Bersatu deputy president, has been called to appear before the party’s disciplinary board over allegations that he attempted to undermine the party’s 2025 annual general assembly and weaken its leadership.
There has also been growing speculation that he may be removed from his position as tensions escalate between him and party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
