MELAKA, 20 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Secretariat of Projek Jelajah Siswa (PJS) from Kolej Kediaman Kesembilan (KK9), Universiti Malaya, successfully concluded its national outreach programme series with a two-day, one-night STEM initiative at Sekolah Menengah Sains Muzaffar Syah (MOZAC).

The high-impact programme marked the closing chapter of this year’s Jelajah Siswa series and saw the participation of more than 160 students from the Melaka-based boarding school.

A delegation comprising 26 secretariat members and facilitators departed from Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur early in the morning before travelling to the historical state for the programme.

Upon arrival, the delegation was welcomed by the school’s management team, with the event officially launched through an opening address by a representative of Sekolah Menengah Sains Muzaffar Syah.

To foster rapport between university students and participants, the programme began with group assignments, ice-breaking activities and team cheers involving 140 students. The first day continued with the LDK STEM 1 session, which challenged participants to apply critical thinking skills through interactive activities.

Following the evening session, participants took part in the Explore Race, a comprehensive station-based challenge designed to test teamwork, communication and problem-solving abilities.

The activity featured six modules: Find Me, My Birthday, Sehati Sejiwa, You Say We Draw, STEM Mapping and How About Me. The challenges required participants to demonstrate physical agility, strategic thinking and strong collaboration skills.

The second day began with an energiser session aimed at restoring focus and motivation before participants moved on to the programme’s key academic components.

Two hands-on STEM modules, LDK STEM 2 (Balloon Racing) and LDK STEM 3 (Catapult), became the highlights of the day as students assumed the role of young engineers tasked with designing and constructing balloon-powered racers and mechanical launchers using limited resources.

The activities enabled participants to apply concepts in physics and mechanics through practical and creative learning experiences.

A reflection session was held before the programme concluded, providing participants and facilitators with an opportunity to share feedback and discuss the impact of the initiative.

The closing ceremony featured a token exchange between Universiti Malaya and the school, symbolising the collaborative partnership forged throughout the programme.

The successful implementation of the initiative reflects the continued commitment of Universiti Malaya’s KK9 secretariat members to nurturing interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics among younger generations.

Organisers expressed hope that the strategic collaboration with Sekolah Menengah Sains Muzaffar Syah will leave a lasting impact and contribute towards developing innovative future talent. – The Capital Post
