KUALA LUMPUR, 29 October 2025 (The Capital Post) – The MyKad verification system for the BUDI95 fuel subsidy has been operating smoothly since its rollout last month, according to the Ministry of Finance (MOF). The programme, which ensures that only eligible Malaysians benefit from the subsidised RON95 petrol, began its phased launch in late September.

Under the BUDI95 initiative, citizens with valid MyKad and driving licences are entitled to purchase RON95 petrol at RM 1.99 per litre, capped at 300 litres per month. The phased implementation — starting with military and police personnel, then SARA recipients, and finally the general public — was designed to minimise technical disruptions and ensure system stability.

The MOF said the staggered rollout allowed for real-time monitoring and improvements, especially after lessons learned from the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) system issues in August. In its first month, BUDI95 recorded stable operations with minimal complaints or long queues at petrol stations, indicating that the verification process is functioning as intended. – The Capital Post
