LUMUT 21 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – Repair and cleaning works are currently underway at the Lumut Jetty, with authorities also planning broader upgrading efforts to improve facilities and enhance the overall condition of the key maritime gateway to Pangkor Island.
Perak state officials said the initial phase of works includes repairs to public amenities such as waiting areas and toilets, alongside general maintenance and cleaning around the jetty to improve comfort for visitors and passengers.
The public toilets at the jetty are expected to reopen after repair works are completed, while temporary facilities have been provided in the meantime to accommodate users during the maintenance period.
Authorities added that long-term upgrading plans are being coordinated by the relevant federal agency following the formal transfer of ownership of the jetty site earlier this year, allowing more direct intervention in its development and management.
Regular monitoring and maintenance checks will also be carried out to ensure the facility remains operational while more extensive structural and infrastructure improvements are being planned under future development phases.

The jetty, which serves as the main access point to Pangkor Island, has been a focus of public attention recently, with calls for better upkeep to support tourism and improve visitor experience.
Officials said that proposed upgrades will include enhancements to public facilities, structural improvements, and general beautification efforts in line with its role as an important transport hub in Perak.
Long-term redevelopment of the area is expected to be implemented once budget approvals and technical plans are finalised by the relevant authorities.-The Capital Post
