MOTAC Backs Halal Tourism Growth at BIHAS 2026

KUCHING, 22 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) reaffirmed its commitment to advancing halal tourism and trade by participating in the launch of the Borneo International Halal Showcase (BIHAS) 2026 in Kuching.

Representing the ministry were Deputy Secretary-General (Culture) Datuk Mohd Yusri Mohd Yusoff and MOTAC Sarawak Director Debbie anak Jenggut Nyelang.

Held from 21 to 23 July, BIHAS 2026 brings together industry leaders, entrepreneurs and policymakers to strengthen Sarawak’s position as a regional halal hub. The three-day event features industry forums, halal culinary showcases, product tastings and exhibitions highlighting innovative halal products and services.

The showcase was officially launched by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari, following welcoming remarks by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

During the event, the MOTAC delegation also visited the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) booth, where they engaged with industry stakeholders and highlighted efforts to promote sustainable, Muslim-friendly tourism.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya Malaysia, the ministry’s participation reflects its continued support for strengthening Malaysia’s halal tourism ecosystem and enhancing the country’s position as a leading Muslim-friendly travel destination. – The Capital Post.
