LONDON 26 March 2026 (The Capital Post)- Apple has begun implementing mandatory age verification for users in the United Kingdom, requiring millions of iPhone and iPad owners to confirm they are at least 18 years old before accessing certain services and features following the latest software update.
Under the new requirement included in its iOS 26.4 update, UK users must provide proof of age through methods such as scanning an official identity document, using a credit card, or confirming details linked to an existing Apple account to maintain full access to device functions and content.
Those who do not complete the verification process will be subject to enhanced content filters and communication safety tools designed for children, potentially limiting access to some apps and services until age is confirmed.

Britain’s communications regulator, Ofcom, welcomed the change, saying the move strengthens protections for children online as part of broader efforts to curb exposure to harmful material, though some users have raised privacy concerns about device‑level checks.
The rollout reflects growing pressure from the UK government and regulators on tech companies to bolster child safety measures in digital environments in line with the Online Safety Act and ongoing debates about age assurance requirements for online content. -The Capital Post
