MANCHESTER 26 March 2026 (The Capital Post)- Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has said former head coach Rúben Amorim brought innovative ideas to Old Trafford, but acknowledged they ultimately failed to take hold during his tenure.
Maguire, speaking in an interview with The Guardian, praised Amorim’s creativity and leadership while also admitting the tactical approach “didn’t work” at the Premier League club.
The centre‑back highlighted that the ideas did not click with the squad, saying both the coaching staff and players share responsibility for the lack of success under Amorim’s system.
Amorim, who had employed a back‑three formation at United, was replaced earlier this year after the team’s struggles, and interim boss Michael Carrick has since overseen an upturn in results that helped lift the club into the Premier League’s top three.

Maguire also credited Carrick and his coaching team for a smooth transition that allowed several players to regain form and confidence following the managerial change.
The 33‑year‑old defender’s comments come as he prepares to join the England squad for upcoming friendly matches, reflecting on both his club role and international ambitions. -The Capital Post
