Economy Ministry, TNB Strengthen Energy Transition Plans

PUTRAJAYA, 14 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — The Ministry of Economy and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) recently held discussions on the strategic direction of Malaysia’s energy sector, focusing on energy transition initiatives and future infrastructure development.

According to information shared on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Ekonomi, Economy Minister Datuk Seri Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir received a courtesy visit from a TNB delegation led by its president and chief executive officer Datuk Ir Ts Shamsul Ahmad.

The discussion centred on key projects under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), future energy infrastructure readiness and efforts to strengthen national energy security amid the rapid expansion of the digital economy and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Among the initiatives discussed were the development of large-scale renewable energy projects such as the Hybrid Hydro-Floating Solar (HHFS) project in Kenyir, green hydrogen exploration with strategic industry partners and the development of the Regasification Terminal (RGT3) project to ensure the stability of the country’s gas supply.

Akmal also stressed the importance of implementing balanced national energy planning that takes into account economic competitiveness, public welfare, environmental sustainability and investor confidence.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continue working closely with stakeholders in discussing mitigation measures and exchanging views amid ongoing global economic challenges.

The engagement also aligns with Malaysia’s broader agenda to strengthen its energy transition efforts in ensuring sustainable, resilient and inclusive economic growth for the future. – The Capital Post
