TEHRAN 31 March 2026 (The Capital Post) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has firmly stated that there have been no direct discussions with the United States, rejecting claims made by Washington about ongoing negotiations to resolve the escalating conflict.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei clarified that no communication has taken place between Tehran and Washington in recent weeks, despite repeated assertions by US officials suggesting otherwise. He emphasised that Iran’s position remains unchanged, with the country not engaging in any form of direct dialogue with the United States.
According to the ministry, while proposals and messages may have been conveyed through intermediaries such as regional countries, these do not constitute formal negotiations. Officials stressed that indirect communication efforts should not be misinterpreted as diplomatic engagement between the two sides.
The denial comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where ongoing military exchanges and attacks on key infrastructure have raised concerns about a broader conflict. Despite US claims of progress in talks, Iranian authorities insist that their focus remains on national defence in response to continued military pressure.

Iran has also expressed scepticism over Washington’s statements, suggesting they may be aimed at shaping public perception or easing global market reactions rather than reflecting actual diplomatic progress. Officials reiterated that any meaningful resolution would require a shift in US actions rather than rhetoric.
Regional and international actors, including several Middle Eastern and Asian nations, have attempted to mediate between the two sides. However, Iran maintains that it has not formally participated in any negotiations and continues to reject claims of direct engagement with the United States.
The situation remains fluid as diplomatic uncertainty persists alongside ongoing military developments, with analysts warning that the absence of direct talks could prolong tensions and complicate efforts toward de-escalation.-The Capital Post
