GEORGE TOWN, 2 March 2026 (The Capital Post) – A Penang Deputy Chief Minister was seen arriving at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office here, drawing public attention amid an ongoing investigation linked to alleged misuse of state zakat funds.
The exact purpose of his presence at the MACC office has not been officially confirmed. However, it is understood that the visit is related to an investigation involving allegations of abuse of power and possible mismanagement of zakat allocations.
Previously, MACC investigators had visited several offices believed to be connected to the case to obtain relevant documents. Statements from at least two individuals associated with the matter have also been recorded as part of the investigation process.
The probe is being conducted under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which concerns the offence of using one’s position for gratification or personal benefit.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow had earlier stated that the state government would fully cooperate with MACC and would not interfere with the investigation. He emphasised that no internal probe would be carried out in order to allow MACC to conduct an independent and transparent investigation.
The allegations were first raised by an opposition state assemblyman during a Penang State Legislative Assembly sitting late last year.
As of now, MACC has not issued further official statements on the progress of the investigation. – The Capital Post
