SYDNEY 15 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – Britain’s Prince Harry has spoken candidly about the emotional challenges of fatherhood during his official visit to Australia with his wife, Meghan Markle.
While attending an event in Melbourne, the Duke of Sussex shared that he initially felt disconnected during Meghan’s pregnancy, describing the experience as one where he was largely observing rather than fully understanding what she was going through.
He revealed that this period led him to seek therapy in order to better prepare himself for fatherhood and to improve his emotional wellbeing. Harry emphasised the importance of mental health support, particularly for men who may struggle to express their feelings after becoming parents.
The couple, who have two children, Archie and Lilibet, are currently on a four-day visit focused on initiatives related to mental health, sports and support for veterans.
During discussions with a mental health organisation, Harry described parenting as an “emotional roller coaster,” noting that many new fathers often experience uncertainty and self-doubt in the early stages of raising a child.

The visit has drawn mixed reactions from the public. While the couple received a warm welcome at several engagements, including a children’s hospital in Melbourne, there has also been criticism regarding the purpose of the trip and the associated security costs.
This marks their first visit to Australia since 2018, prior to stepping back from their official royal duties and relocating to the United States in 2020.
Despite varying public opinions, Harry’s openness about his personal struggles is seen as helping to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and emotional support for modern parents. -The Capital Post
