IPOH: A fatal accident in Jelapang was worsened by a delay in ambulance response after incorrect location details were given during the initial emergency call, the Perak Health Department said.
According to a statement on its official Facebook page, the accident was first reported near a residential area in Puncak Jelapang, about eight kilometres from Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB). When the ambulance arrived, no crash was found. A follow-up call later confirmed that the incident had actually occurred along the Ipoh–Lumut Highway heading towards Jelapang.
The Medical Emergency Coordination Centre (MECC) received the call at 3.05pm and dispatched an ambulance immediately. The team reached the correct location at 3.55pm and attended to a 33-year-old woman and a three-year-old child. The woman suffered serious injuries, while the child was unconscious and received on-site resuscitation. Both were rushed to HRPB’s Emergency and Trauma Department, with resuscitation continued for the child during transit.
Tragically, the three-year-old girl later died. Earlier reports confirmed the crash occurred when the woman’s Perodua Kelisa lost control and collided with a police Honda Civic travelling from Lumut to Jelapang. Two police officers, aged 42 and 48, were injured, sustaining leg injuries, a fractured shoulder, and an eyelid wound.
