VLADIVOSTOK, 16 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia is exploring potential cooperation with Russia in maritime education and training, shipping technology, research and talent development following a visit to Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University in Vladivostok.
The university is among the key maritime education institutions in the Russian Far East, specialising in developing professionals for the shipping, navigation, marine engineering and maritime industries.
During the visit, the delegation was taken to the Far Eastern Maritime Training Center, a modern facility that combines academic learning with simulation-based practical training.
Among the facilities observed were a 360-degree ship bridge simulator, engine room simulator, navigation and communication systems, as well as safety and survival-at-sea training facilities.
The facilities enable students and maritime professionals to train for real-life situations at sea in a controlled environment.
During the visit, Zambry also had the opportunity to experience the ship bridge simulator and navigate a vessel under realistic simulated conditions.

He said the approach demonstrated the importance of developing maritime education with a strong emphasis on practical skills, technology and industry requirements.
As a maritime nation, Malaysia has significant potential to explore cooperation with Russia in maritime education and training, shipping technology, research and the development of maritime industry talent.
He expressed hope that further cooperation opportunities could be explored to benefit institutions, students and industries in both countries.
