BEIJING, 5 March 2026 (The Capital Post)— Chinese data centre operator VNet Group is said to have secured a major contract with ByteDance, the parent company of the popular video platform TikTok, in a deal aimed at expanding computing capacity to support the tech giant’s growing digital services.

According to people familiar with the matter, the agreement would see VNet provide ByteDance with around 500 megawatts of data centre capacity in China, marking one of the largest orders for the company’s infrastructure services.

The expanded capacity is expected to support ByteDance’s rapidly growing artificial intelligence initiatives and cloud-based technologies, including its AI chatbot and other digital platforms that require substantial computing and storage resources.

Industry observers say the reported deal reflects the surging demand for large-scale data centre infrastructure as technology firms accelerate investment in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing systems.
