BANTING, 19 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — Malaysia’s Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) continued efforts to strengthen the country’s timber industry through the 2026 Timber Industry Stakeholder Dialogue Programme held at the Fibre and Biocomposite Development Centre (FIDEC) 3.

The programme was attended by Plantation and Commodities Minister, Noraini Ahmad.

According to the ministry, the timber industry remains one of the key contributors to the national economy after recording export values of RM21.5 billion in 2025, further strengthening its position as the country’s third-largest agri-commodity subsector.

The dialogue programme served as a strategic platform for industry players to share views, challenges and recommendations directly in efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Malaysia’s timber sector.

Among the key issues discussed were global economic uncertainties, rising operational costs, international non-tariff barriers and compliance with sustainability certifications such as the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards.

KPK, together with related agencies, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the country’s timber industry remains globally competitive in line with the aspirations outlined under the National Agricommodity Policy 2021-2030 (DAKN2030) and the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13).
