GENEVA, 19 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad participated in a High-Level discussion on the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) organised by the Government of Portugal in Geneva, where Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) emphasised that AI in healthcare is not merely about advanced technology, but also about building public trust.

During the session, MOH highlighted the effectiveness of its smart lung screening initiative implemented at public health clinics across the country.

According to the ministry, a total of 9,174 patients were successfully screened through the initiative, with 26.9 per cent found to have abnormalities detected through chest X-rays.

The programme also enabled the early detection of 724 lung nodules, 73 high-risk cancer cases and suspected Tuberculosis (TB) cases, allowing for faster intervention and treatment to help save lives.

MOH stressed that while AI technology continues to evolve, it will never replace the expertise, judgement and human touch of healthcare workers.

Instead, the ministry said AI is being fully optimised to strengthen and complement the capabilities of frontline healthcare personnel, who remain the backbone of the national healthcare system.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that healthcare innovation and AI advancements are guided responsibly in building a healthcare system that prioritises dignity, empathy and patient well-being.
