PUTRAJAYA, 20 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting today received a presentation from the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) regarding the impact of the global supply crisis on the country’s manufacturing sector.

According to him, the presentation provided the government with a clearer picture of the current challenges faced by industry players, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that continue to face rising operational and cost pressures.

He said the insights are important in ensuring that government policies and measures accurately reflect the realities faced by businesses on the ground.

To strengthen support for affected businesses, the government has introduced the RM5 billion SME Stabilisation Relief Facility (SME SRF) under Bank Negara Malaysia to help SMEs maintain cash flow and continue business operations.

In addition, financing guarantee support amounting to RM5 billion through Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan (SJPP) has also been made available to assist affected sectors.

The meeting also reviewed proposals to improve the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS), which will be implemented in a balanced manner to strengthen leak prevention efforts without disrupting business operations and the country’s supply chain.

Anwar said the government will continue managing the crisis by focusing on ensuring the stability of food, energy, medicine and essential goods supplies while addressing inflationary pressures and strengthening the nation’s economic resilience.

He added that engagement sessions with industry players and stakeholders will continue to be intensified to ensure policy decisions are comprehensive and centred on the interests of the rakyat and the nation.
