KUALA LUMPUR, 5 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – Hydrogen Malaysia (H₂Malaysia), formerly known as the Hydrogen Industry Alliance Malaysia (H₂IAM), has strengthened its governance framework and strategic direction as it seeks to accelerate the development of a coordinated and commercially viable hydrogen ecosystem in Malaysia.

Founded by NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB), an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), H₂Malaysia serves as the country’s unified industry platform, bringing together stakeholders across the hydrogen value chain to support Malaysia’s energy transition and long-term economic growth.

The alliance plays a key role in fostering collaboration between industry, government, academia and technology providers through policy advocacy, investment facilitation, technology adoption, talent development and the promotion of industry standards aligned with global best practices.

H₂Malaysia currently comprises 44 member organisations nationwide, reflecting growing industry confidence in hydrogen as a future energy source. Through strategic partnerships and industry engagement initiatives, the alliance aims to strengthen coordination while creating new commercial opportunities across the hydrogen value chain.

The organisation recently showcased Malaysia’s hydrogen capabilities during the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen (APGH) 2026 conference and exhibition in Kuching, Sarawak. Together with NMB, H₂Malaysia highlighted advancements in hydrogen production, storage, distribution and mobility solutions alongside member companies including SEDC Energy (SEDCE), Hydrexia Sdn Bhd and HyPERtech Industries Sdn Bhd (HISB).

On the international front, H₂Malaysia continues to expand regional cooperation through strategic partnerships. These include a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korea Hydrogen Alliance (H2Korea) signed in October 2025 and Malaysia’s appointment as the country’s representative to the Global Hydrogen Industrial Association Alliance (GHIAA) in December 2025.

These collaborations support Malaysia’s ambition to supply up to 10 per cent of hydrogen demand in key markets such as Japan and South Korea by 2030 while strengthening its position within the emerging Asia-Pacific hydrogen economy.

The alliance also concluded its Stakeholders’ Meeting No. 2/2026, where members reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening industry collaboration and accelerating hydrogen ecosystem development. Key outcomes included the formalisation of the H₂Malaysia brand, alignment of strategic priorities and performance targets, as well as enhancements to governance structures to support long-term industry coordination, policy engagement and investment facilitation.

As President of H₂Malaysia, SEDCE said the strengthened governance framework and clearer strategic alignment would enable the alliance to better support policy implementation, technology deployment, investment facilitation and talent development while fostering greater collaboration across the hydrogen value chain.

Meanwhile, NMB continues to play a central role as the founding and coordinating body of H₂Malaysia. Its Chief Executive Officer, Prof (Adj.) Dr Rezal Khairi Ahmad, serves as the alliance’s founding chairman, providing strategic oversight and facilitating collaboration between industry stakeholders and government agencies to support project development, regulatory engagement and industry standardisation.

H₂Malaysia said the strengthened governance framework reflects its commitment to building a competitive, sustainable and globally connected hydrogen industry that supports Malaysia’s transition towards a low-carbon economy and positions the country as a key player in the regional hydrogen market. – The Capital Post.
