Malaysia, Thailand Reaffirm Defence Cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – Thailand’s Minister of Defence, His Excellency Lieutenant General Adul Boonthumjaroen, paid a courtesy call on Malaysia’s Defence Minister, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, during his official visit to Malaysia.

During the meeting, both ministers discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral defence cooperation, including joint military exercises, the exchange of military personnel for training, and professional military education under the Malaysian Defence Cooperation Programme (MDCP).

The ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ASEAN unity and solidarity through regional platforms, including the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and ADMM-Plus.

On border security cooperation, both sides expressed their anticipation for the 58th Malaysia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC MALTHAI) meeting, which is tentatively scheduled to be hosted by Malaysia at the end of 2026.

Mohamed Khaled also extended an invitation to Lieutenant General Adul to attend the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2027 (LIMA’27), which is scheduled to take place from 20 to 24 April 2027.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Pertahanan Malaysia, the meeting underscored the strong and longstanding defence partnership between Malaysia and Thailand while reaffirming both countries’ commitment to enhancing regional peace, security and cooperation. – The Capital Post.
