KUALA LUMPUR, 21 May 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) is commemorating its 60th anniversary this year, celebrating six decades of advancing leadership excellence, organisational capability, and human capital development in Malaysia since its establishment in 1966.

The milestone celebration will culminate in the MIM 60th Anniversary Royal Gala Dinner on 8 August 2026 at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur, bringing together leaders from government, corporate sectors, academia, and the wider business community. The event will be graced by the Sultan of Selangor, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin, as Royal Guests of Honour.

MIM said the Royal Gala Dinner would honour distinguished dignitaries for their service and contributions to national development, while recognising individuals and leaders who have played significant roles in the institute’s growth over the past six decades. The event will also feature the Conferment Ceremony of the new Court of Emeritus Fellow (CoEF), a prestigious recognition for outstanding leadership and enduring contributions to the management profession.

Speaking during the institute’s 60th anniversary press conference, MIM President Dato’ Yeoh Soo Min underscored the increasing importance of responsible leadership amid rapid technological disruption, artificial intelligence advancements, and evolving workforce dynamics.

“I believe education is not information. Information is everywhere today, but leadership still requires judgment, trust, and human connection. MIM’s role is not simply to provide more content. Our role is to help leaders make sense of complexity,” she said.

Yeoh added that while global knowledge remains important, leadership development in Malaysia and ASEAN must be grounded in local realities, cultures, and business environments to remain relevant and effective.

Founded in 1966 as a national management institution dedicated to professionalising management practices in Malaysia, MIM has served as a bridge between industry, academia, government, and the broader professional community. The institute said its legacy has been built on knowledge-sharing, capability-building, and leadership transformation initiatives that continue to shape the country’s management landscape.

Over the past decade, MIM has accelerated its transformation efforts to remain industry-relevant and future-focused by expanding professional certification pathways, strengthening executive training programmes, and forging strategic collaborations with government agencies, industries, and international partners.

Today, the institute said it has empowered more than one million professionals and 5,000 organisations, while steadily strengthening its regional and international presence as a catalyst for management excellence.

As part of its diamond jubilee celebrations, MIM will also roll out year-long initiatives aimed at strengthening leadership and thought leadership development. These include the publication of a commemorative book and an international conference series featuring experts from Malaysia, ASEAN, and around the world.

Reaffirming MIM’s long-term mission, Yeoh said the institute remains committed to serving as a trusted platform for leadership learning, professional growth, and meaningful industry collaboration.

“Our members are not transactions. They are lifelong partners in learning. MIM must support leaders across every stage of their journey from young managers to senior executives. In a divided world, MIM can be a voice of unity in education,” she said. – The Capital Post.
