JOHOR BAHRU, July 11, 2026 (The Capital Post) – UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah has urged Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming to honour his pledge to resign following Barisan Nasional’s (BN) landslide victory in the 2026 Johor State Election (PRN).
According to Armand Azha, BN’s strong performance in securing around 50 seats in the Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) demonstrates that the people of Johor have given the coalition a clear mandate to continue governing the state.
He said political leaders should stand by the promises they make to the public, especially when such commitments are made openly during the election campaign.
Earlier, Nga Kor Ming was reported as saying that he would be the first to resign if Barisan Nasional won the Johor state election and Datuk Seri Najib Razak was released without any conviction. He also stated that the Democratic Action Party (DAP) did not rule out withdrawing from the Unity Government should such a situation arise, describing it as the party’s “red line.”
The remarks drew reactions from several BN leaders. BN Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan had previously stressed that the formation of the Johor state government has no connection to federal-level matters.
“Alhamdulillah, let him resign. We do want him to resign. If BN wins in Johor, we are only forming the state government. The state government has nothing to do with federal matters,” he said at the Johor BN headquarters.

Commenting on the latest developments, Armand Azha said BN’s overwhelming victory reflected Johoreans’ rejection of the narrative promoted by the opposition throughout the campaign.
He also called on Nga to uphold his principles and integrity by fulfilling the commitment he had made publicly, adding that a leader’s credibility is measured by their willingness to honour their promises.
The Johor state election, held today, saw BN record a decisive victory, strengthening its position as the state government. The outcome exceeded several earlier projections, which had forecast BN winning between 40 and more than 50 state seats, further reinforcing Johor’s status as one of the coalition’s traditional strongholds.
As of now, Nga Kor Ming has yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest calls for his resignation following the Johor state election results.- The Capital Post
