KUALA LUMPUR, 18 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said strong infrastructure should not only be measured by the construction of bridges, roads and buildings, but by its ability to support the economy, improve the rakyat’s quality of life and safeguard the nation’s future.

He said the B.U.I.L.D.E.R.S. Industry Forum 2026 and the launch of the Chartered International Institute of Built Environment & Engineering (CIBE) serve as important platforms to bring together local and international expertise in shaping a more sustainable future for the construction, engineering and infrastructure development sectors.

According to him, the increasingly challenging global landscape, including climate change, economic uncertainty, supply chain disruptions and digital transformation, requires the industry to move in a more integrated, collaborative and forward-looking manner.

Nanta stressed that emphasis on sustainability, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices, smart cities, artificial intelligence, automation and digital systems is essential to ensure Malaysia’s construction sector remains relevant and globally competitive.

He also expressed confidence that the establishment of CIBE would act as a catalyst for broader research, innovation, professional development and strategic collaboration within the industry.

The minister added that what is being built today is not merely physical infrastructure, but the foundation for the country’s economic future, public well-being and environmental sustainability.
